Healthy weight loss for your child
Having an overweight child is a heartbreak. I know this firsthand. It’s so tough when they come home from school or sports practice to solemnly announce that they can’t keep up with the running or they got picked last for the team at PE class. Eventually, my nine-year-old son decided for himself that he wanted to lose weight.
He and i researched weight loss for children online and finally found a program that was healthy and food-group related. This would ensure that he would get the needed nutrition for an active young child. His food groups were split into proteins, starches, fruits, veggies, dairy and “extras”, or fats. Depending on his goal and his age and weight, we chose the appropriate program and began. I’m pleased to say that he lost 22 pounds over 18 weeks and two years later, has kept off all but seven pounds. I have allowed the extra gain as he is still growing! He looks good, plays soccer and basketball and has no problem keeping up with his peers. The most exciting aspect of all this, though, is the wonderful improvement in his self-image and his self-esteem. That has made the whole experience worth it. It wasn’t exactly easy but if you were to ask him, he would do it again in a minute.
